Lingua Gustatio: Zi Zai Restaurant 自在饭店
Chinese are always fond of having rice as staples alongside with multiple dishes. Zi Zai Restaurant serves you traditional Chinese cuisines with the over 40 years culinary experience of the master chef.
华人中餐必有的是饭以及各式各样的菜肴。今天自在饭店主打的就是古早味的家常菜。
Simple and well literated menu
Zi Zai is well famed for their Poon Chooi (Basin Vege) which comprises of turnips, cabbage, yam, pork, dried oysters, chicken, duck, prawns, even abalone etc in a big bowl. It is commonly consumed during Chinese New Year signifying the abundance and affluence for the family. I shall give it a try next year CNY haha.
Anyway, we just wanted something simple to eat tonight. (House chef aka mom is on leave lol)
其实自在最闻名的是他们的盆菜,我想下次新年可以来尝一尝,而今天就来吃吃家常便饭。
Granny Tofu 婆婆豆腐
Not the extremely fiery Mapo Tofu but this tofu from the granny tastes milder and the bean paste has thoroughly seeped into the smooth tofu skin.
起初还以为是辣味十足的麻婆豆腐,不过这婆婆豆腐还有多一番豆酱的香味。
Belacan Chicken 马拉煎鸡
Fried chicken with shrimp paste will always be welcomed at all age. The crispy skin is what we always look forward to. Who cares about the calories? Lol
老少咸宜的一道菜,脆脆的鸡皮,好吃。(虽然有点油哈哈)
Stir Fried Kailan 炒芥兰
The homecooked style, lightly dipped in soy sauce mixed with crushed garlic.
Steamed Pork with Salted Fish 咸鱼蒸肉饼
Another motherly dish as I will always add more rice if this comes on my table. Salted fish accentuates the pork intensely and tenderness of the pork is just right at the beat. Lets have another bowl of rice pls.
很有家乡味的菜式,咸鱼的香味流入了猪肉饼里,真的很适合再陪上几碗饭呢。

Overall, we deem that our dinner to be pretty satisfactory for the savory and the price wise (around RM40 for all the above, 3-4pax), but not the waiting time. Perhaps they need more assistants in the kitchen.
食物味道皆不错,价钱也公道,唯一不足的是人手吧,等的时间比较久。
