Shalom 2015!

Greetings on this very first day of 2015!
I'm supposed to write about new year resolution but I think I should add on the past events of 2014 before heading to the resolutions.

Global issues in 2014 国际事件

1. The aviation disaster has swirled the public and left the hearts shattered.
8th March - The Malaysia Airlines MH370 departed from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had disappeared over the gulf of Thailand after their signal lost with the air traffic control. No single debris was found to date, all sorts of assumptions were made. It was presumed that the plane carrying 239 aboard had crashed into the Indian Ocean.

17th July - Another sudden & shocking news about Malaysia Airlines occurred. MH17, unfortunately shot down by plane missiles was marked as the deadliest incident in Ukraine. Some blamed the pro-Russians, some pointed the fingers to the Ukranians while no one knew what was the real truth causing 298 fatalities.

28th Dec - Nobody expected a consecutive tragedy of air disaster happened in merely a year. Fatally, Air Asia QZ 8501 flying from Surabaya to Singapore had vanished into the Java Sea after connection lost with the air traffic control. The most likely cause should be extremely poor weather. With dismal, the wreckage and bodies were found 2 days later. The entire aircraft carried 162 people including 7 crew members.

2. The epidemic of Ebola virus - nightmare of West African.

Everyone is worried that Ebola might be an pandemic issue. In fact, yes it can definitely be spread worldwide but with the proper isolation and treatment, the prognosis will be better. So far, the population affected is around 20 thousands people with almost 8000 deaths.

3. Terrorist attack

Totally upset to see so many people being murdered. Where is the world peace, folks? We are born equal, we are all human beings. Why do we kill each other for the fame? Greed? Power? Or whatsoever...

My personal event in 2014 个人事件

1. I have finally graduated as a dentist in September. 5 years of hard work with less than 5 hours sleep per day ain't easy but I'm glad I managed it well and did not disappoint my mama. Thus, I would consider this as my greatest achievement in 2014. ^_^

2. Life always goes up and down, ain't a bed of roses after all. There was this period, I was lost. No motivation, inspiration, nothing. I was on the verge of falling off the cliff. (I guess I was way too stressed to sit for my exams) So, my mentor appeared and showed me the bright way again. Thank you so much for the advice & great care.

My wishes & goals in 2015 未来愿望

1. Would beg for a peaceful world. PEACE!
2. Everyone to be safe and sound, healthy and happy. (No war, no natural disaster etc etc)
3. The last one would be every girl's dream. Eat all you can without gaining weight! xD 。哈)

Now, tell me what are your 2015 visions!

  1. Happy New Year!
Hi, me again. Couldn't resist to make a comment here when you wrote about aviation disaster, to tell a story.
MH370 incident happened about 3 weeks after I got my first job offer in aviation industry. I went ahead into the industry nonetheless since I'm from aerospace background, it is my dream.
I got another job offer from the our national carrier soon after that, and 2 weeks after I accepted their job offer, there came MH17 and it was devastating for the whole nation. I chose to join the ill-fated airline despite of all the spotlights shone on the company.
The reason why I share the above stories, and why I made all those decisions, is all just about to make a point - flying is still the safest mode of travel. In contrary to the public's perception, 2014 is the safest year ever in recorded commercial aviation history since 1921 in terms of number of fatal incidents (source: http://news.aviation-safety.net/2015/01/01/despite-high-profile-accidents-2014-was-the-safest-year-ever-according-to-asn-data/)
The fear of travel by air is because of all the high profile air incidents in our country, the uprise of social media, and the thought of "the grass is always greener on the other side" in our fellow countrymen.
We have a very good track record since the very beginning, even the foreigners choose to fly with us because of our hospitality. Be confident in our national carrier, have faith in aviation industry. #keepflying

*sorry for the long-winded intrusion to your blog*

    1. Hi Cress!! Do you know that your 'long-winded intrusion' has fallen into my spam folder? LOL That's why I didn't realize about it until I checked my comment list today. lol..
Wow, I didn't know you are in aerospace industry. My mind goes 'wow, you must be extremely good in physics & maths. Well, thanks for clarifying that 2014 being the safest year of all. I've read something about it before but I think the public are still afraid of taking flights. Perhaps the time will heal everything and I believe all the airlines are working their very best to upgrade the service to provide the safest flights.
I used to fly a lot when I studied abroad, and honestly to me, our national flights are way better than others (specifically Indian airlines) Not to condemn about them, but in comparison, I felt safer travelling in our own airlines.
Hopefully 2015 will be a better year to everyone!
      #keepflying too!

  2. Uh oh... I'll make it short this time :P
Nah... that's what everyone think about aerospace guys. We are not rocket scientist nor theoretical physicist. Some people in this industry doesn't even have a proper degree, and some even fail their science papers in high school, but nonetheless, most of them here are people with lots of technical knowledge gathered through years of experience. Although I hold a lot of passions in science and maths, but my say in this industry is that experience is worth more than book studies. Omg... I sound so old...
Anyway, am so glad to meet more Malaysians who choose to fly with our national carrier and be proud of it. It is always the MalaysianHospitality that keeps flyers safe and happy (and of course the nasi lemak and the satays and all the snacks!)
