Lingua Gustatio: Air Itam Market Curry Mee & Laksa

On an idle Saturday morning, we had a stroll to Air Itam market which is a long historical street market trading all sorts of food & groceries. There is a wet market in a closed stretch of area and all along the Jalan Air Itam, the merchants actually keep their stalls on the street and thus, it causes heavy traffic congestion at all times. Well, this is pretty common in Penang with the cars and motors flocking all the narrow streets.

Honestly, I'm quite ashamed that I have never tried the superstar grandmothers' curry mee in Air Itam despite being a Penangite. The grandmothers have been running this business for more than 50 years in this small lorong/ alley. I did not take a very good pictures of them unfortunately.

They are selling this under the shades. Behind the umbrella, you can see both the sisters smiling beamingly to serve you the curry mee.

Review of the curry mee:
Taste: 8/10 (I feel it's quite spicy at first but the hotness just won't stop you from finishing the whole bowl of soup.)
Price: 8/10 (RM4 each which is a normal price to local people)
Ambience: 5/10 (We just can't expect any nice environment from the wet market here.)

Next, we walked few steps down along Jalan Air Itam to search for the well-known Laksa. I had tried it before few years back and it gave me an awful impression due to its location beside a pungent drain.
The drain seems to be better this time. haha. It was a long Q but we got seated after waiting for few minutes. Our seat was just beside the big cook.

The one and only one, no other branches else where. Don't get conned.

Review of the laksa:
Taste: 7/10 (The laksa soup is sweeter and less sourish & spicy with some shreds of fish flesh)
Price: 8/10 (same as above)
Ambience: 5/10 (same as above)

Location wise, just google it la. xD

Sorry for no photos of the food because... somebody just gobbled everything up before I took my camera out from my bag...$#^&@#$

Besides, the chee cheong fun was pretty good too! Well, still can't compete with my fav chee cheong fun opposite old farlim market anyhow. (that's my childhood fav maaa.)

A bowl of gandum (wheat porridge) to supplement more nutrients as the first meal of the day~ haha
